Garden-ready Seedlings in Elmhurst this Saturday -and- Presentation this Sunday

Our online pre-orders are over, but not to worry! We’ll have a WIDE variety of seedlings available for purchase at the next three Saturday in-person sales events.

Come out to Elmhurst (235 S. Kenilworth) this Saturday, May 2nd from 10 am – 1pm to peruse our selection of seedlings ready to plant (see list below). Food-scrap-amended compost will be available for purchase (please bring your own container). The event will feature other local organizations, so bring the family and friends!

  • Tomatoes (including heirlooms)
  • Peppers (sweet and hot)
  • Eggplants
  • Cucumbers (slicing and pickling)
  • Summer squash and zucchini

  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts (while supplies last)
  • Herbs, including cilantro, garlic chives, parsley,  sage, thyme, and basil (while supplies last)

Please note all of our seedlings (purchased and available for sale) have been hardened off.  This means they are acclimated to the outdoors and are ready for planting. We recommend leaving the seedlings outside until you plant and giving them adequate water when the soil dries out.

Organic gardening class this Sunday
This just in! Kim will be presenting “Create a Vibrant, Organic Veggie Garden” this Sunday, May 3rd at 2:30 pm as part of the popular Green Earth Fair in south Naperville. The event includes presentations, live music, local vendors and a tour of the farm. See this link for full details.

Laying out your growing spaces can be a fun puzzle to work out. We can help you optimize your garden to maximize space and yields and minimize crowding. Kim will discuss the various considerations in designing your vegetable garden.

  • Ordering online (through April 29th) helps ensure that you get the varieties of veggies and herbs you want. Orders can be picked up in Villa Park (TBD by you), Elmhurst (May 2nd), Glen Ellyn/SCARCE (May 9th),  Geneva (May 16th).

Compost is available for purchase at two of the sales events: Elmhurst – May 2nd, 10am – 1pm or Glen Ellyn/SCARCE – May 9th, 9am – 1pm.

  • In Elmhurst (May 2nd), compost will be available on a first come, first serve basis for $2.50 for a five gallon container and $10 for a 32-gallon garbage can. Cash or checks will be accepted (no credit cards).  You must provide your own container.
  • In Glen Ellyn/SCARCE (May 9th), compost is available for $2.50 for a five gallon container and $10 for a 32-gallon garbage can. Pre-orders are available via this link.

Plants out — Organic Gardening class — Kim’s Gentleness talk

This weekend ALL of the seedlings made their maiden voyage from the basement into the backyard hoop houses, where they’re soaking up the sun’s rays (even through the clouds).
